Let’s Re-group a little…

Alright. I’ve taken quite a few breaks from this project, all of them for happy or productive reasons like proposing to my girlfriend or restoring an old Shwinn bike for my new fiancée. Now however, it’s time to get back to business.

Luckily, these breaks have allowed me to really think through this project and exactly what direction it is going, and what decisions I’ll be making on some of the tougher obstacles ahead.

So, to reiterate, I will be building this sim as cheaply and efficiently as possible to illustrate that you can, in fact, build a really awesome one for very little, and to inspire people to talk to one another and generally be kind and generous. It’ll get you much farther than you could possibly imagine. Having said that, I’ve realized that this project has the potential to be incredibly awesome and I will strive to make it every bit so.

In keeping with both of those goals I will have two cost columns, one for price of the sim, and one for the extra stuff I pump into it. On the plate for that is the screen, a Logitech G27, load sensor mod for the brake pedals and a Bodnar box for greater resolution from the pedals, and a custom computer built to handle some real frame rate.

Something I should have done at the beginning is to draw up a general overview of the sim. That’ll be coming soon along with some incredible information about another interaction I had with a guy who has one of these race cars. More coming soon!
